Many years ago I discovered that I was good at working with my hands. I loved creating jewelry, sculptures, or installation art from unexpected materials. I enjoyed the pure art of "creating."
For the years after art school, I traveled a lot and gained a deep fascination and respect for the symbology of other cultures. Everything has meaning and that is something I’ve always believed, Each piece of jewelry I wear tells a story, whether it’s simply a reminder of a place I visited, a memento from a loved one, or an item that features stones with specific healing properties. There’s meaning in everything.
In Australia I was fortunate enough to study the Aboriginal paintings near Ayers Rock. I loved the simplicity and amount of communication that was achieved from simple gestural drawings.
A trip to Mexico gave me a greater appreciation for the skill involved in jewelry making, especially with semi-precious stones.
India was an incredible place to visit. Its chaotic markets were filled with the most amazing craftsmen, who showed me how their spiritual lives intersected with their art. It’s a combination that’s evident in almost all examples of Indian folk art.
I continue to learn new techniques and skills every day, but I strive to make jewelry with meaning to the wearer. Whether its charms representing signs of the Chinese zodiac or symbols of strength to provide a daily reminder of personal motivation, people who wear my jewelry are able to create combinations of charms and materials to create one-of-a-kind pieces that represent not just their own personalities, but their hopes, dreams and spirituality.
Between my journeys and my own American Indian heritage I have found a true joy in the mysticism and deep meaning behind cultural symbolism. We interact with symbols everyday that have deep significance and can convey a world of meaning through a simple image.
I want my designs to become your favorite piece of jewelry simply because they represent you. A person can look at your charms and get a small snapshot of what you are all about. My new line of charms was created so that these charms would be constant companions in your everyday journey. They are intended to remind you of what is important and put a smile on your face whenever you touch them or hear them jingle.
